KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 17): Malaysia reported 346 new Covid 19 deaths yesterday (Sept 16), bringing total fatalities linked to the coronavirus in the country to 22,355.

According to the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) COVIDNOW website, the daily fatalities included 105 brought-in-dead cases.

Selangor reported the highest number of deaths at 94, followed by Kedah (82), Johor (59), Sabah (47), Penang (30), Sarawak (14), Terengganu (four), Melaka (four), Kelantan (three), Perak (three), Perlis (three) and Kuala Lumpur (three).

In terms of deaths per 100,000 people, Penang topped the list with 18 fatalities, followed by Johor (11.6), Sabah (9.2), Kedah (8.2), Perlis (7.8), Melaka (6.1), Perak (6), Kelantan (4.7), Kuala Lumpur (3.6), Terengganu (3.5), Selangor (3.4), Negeri Sembilan (3.3), Sarawak (3.1) and Pahang (three).

Meanwhile, the number of active cases, which carry high transmission risk, stood at 227,120.

Among them, 189,657 people were undergoing home quarantine, 24,296 patients were being treated in Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres (PKRC), 11,933 individuals were hospitalised and 1,234 of them were being treated in intensive care units (ICUs) (ventilated and unventilated).

Malaysia reported 18,815 new Covid-19 cases yesterday, down from 19,495 the day before. This brought the country’s total Covid-19 infections to 2.05 million.

Among the latest infections, 18,593 or 98.8% of cases were in Category 1 or 2, while 222 cases or 1.2% were in Category 3,4 or 5.

Daily recoveries stood at 16,939, bringing the nation's cumulative Covid-19 recoveries to 1.8 million.
