KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 19): Malaysia logged 14,954 new Covid-19 cases today, according to Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Today's new infections are the lowest in 55 days — the country logged 14,516 new cases on July 26 and the upward curve reached its peak on Aug 26, with 24,599 cases.

Of the latest infections, 14,711 cases or 98.4% had either no symptoms (Category 1) or only mild symptoms (Category 2), he said in a statement.

The remaining 243 cases or 1.6% were in Category 3 (patients with pneumonia), Category 4 (patients with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy), and Category 5 (critical patients requiring assisted breathing).

Dr Noor Hisham added that Sarawak topped the list with 2,707 infections today, followed by Selangor (2,028), Johor (1,948) and Kelantan (1,420).

Other states which recorded four-digit new infections included Sabah with 1,356, Pulau Pinang (1,259) and Perak (1,222).
