SPAIN (Sept 24): Over 200 houses have gone up in smoke in La Palma, Canary Islands when they were engulfed by a volcano, but a lone house which has been left untouched by the lava have had netizens dubbing it “miracle house”.

The image captured by photographer Alfonso Escalero shows the dwelling surrounded by rivers of lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano which erupted on Sunday, reported BBC News today.

A retired Danish couple, Inge and Ranier Cocq, owns the holiday home, but they have not had a chance to visit it since the Covid-19 pandemic began.

Its builders, El Mundo Ada Monnikendam and her husband, who got in touch with the owners, reported the latter saying, “Even though we can't go now, we're relieved that it's still standing".

“The lava from the Cumbre Vieja volcano is still advancing and scientists are not sure how long the eruption will last”, reported BBC.

About 6,000 people have been evacuated. Other than houses, the lava has also buried schools and some banana plantations, and many “have lost everything due to the volcano”, the report said.

It was "sad to know that the house is there alone without anyone being able to take care of it", Monnikendam was cited saying.
