KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 24): Malaysia's Covid-19 cases rose to 14,554 from yesterday's 13,754, according to Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin (pictured).

Sarawak reported the highest number of new infections today at 2,825, followed by Selangor (2,244) and Johor (1,807).

Other states that reported four-digit new cases were Sabah (1,273), Penang (1,231) and Perak (1,144).

With today's new infections, total cases rose to 2,171,232.

Recoveries come in higher at 16,751

New recoveries came in at 16,751, outpacing new infections.

These raised total recoveries to 1,950,467, representing a recovery rate of 89.8%.

Also reported were 1,049 patients in intensive care units, of whom 599 were on ventilators.

98.9% of today's infections were from Categories 1 & 2

The bulk of new infections — at 14,391 or 98.9% — had no symptoms (Category 1) or only mild symptoms (Category 2), Khairy said in a statement.

There were 163 cases or 1.1% in Category 3 (patients with pneumonia), Category 4 (patients with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) and Category 5 (critical patients requiring assisted ventilation).

20 new clusters reported today, 10 from workplace

The Ministry of Health (MoH) reported 20 more Covid-19 clusters today, including 10 workplace clusters.

To date, 5,389 clusters have been detected nationwide, of which 4,139 have been declared ended.
