KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 25): Malaysia reported 13,899 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, down from 14,554 on Friday.

This raised the total number of cases in the country to 2,185,131, said Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

Sarawak continued to post the highest number of cases at 2,712, followed by Selangor (2,341), Johor (1,377), Kelantan (1,170), Perak (1,128), and Penang (1,060).

Sabah recorded 962 cases, Pahang 779 cases, Terengganu (760), Kedah (708), Melaka (339), Kuala Lumpur (310), Negeri Sembilan (194), Putrajaya (37), Perlis (17), and Labuan (five).

98.5% of patients displayed mild or no symptoms

A total of 13,688 or 98.5% of the new cases had no symptoms (Category 1) or only mild symptoms (Category 2), the director-general said. 

The remaining 1.5% of the daily cases were in Category 3 (patients with pneumonia), Category 4 (patients with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) and Category 5 (critical patients requiring assisted ventilation).

Meanwhile, the number of recovered patients reported on Saturday at 18,704 was once again higher than new cases.

These raised total recoveries to date to 1,968,541, translating to a recovery rate of 90.1%.

12 clusters detected

The Health Ministry reported 12 more Covid-19 clusters on Saturday, including five workplace clusters.

Another three clusters were linked to high-risk groups, two others to the community, one to the education sector, and one more to a religious activity.  

Both Selangor and Johor recorded the highest numbers of clusters with three each.

To date, 5,401 clusters have been reported nationwide, including 4,187 that have been declared ended, leaving 1,214 still active.
