KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 27): A total of 19.63 million people or 60.1% of Malaysia’s total population had been administered both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine as of Sunday (Sept 26).

They were among 22.83 million persons or 69.9% of the nation’s population who had received at least their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, according to the latest updates on Twitter on Monday by the country’s Special Committee for Ensuring Access to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), citing data from the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF).

It added that 93.7% of the country’s adult population had received at least the first dose as of Sunday, including 83.7% who were fully inoculated.

This followed the 269,465 doses administered on Sunday, of which 117,196 individuals received their first jab, while the remaining 152,269 received their second shot.

This brought the cumulative tally of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the nation to 42.38 million as of Sunday.

For the Klang Valley, comprising Selangor, Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, about 7.2 million recipients or 85.5% of its population had received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Among them, 6.75 million individuals or 80.2% of the Klang Valley’s population were fully vaccinated.

Sarawak recorded the highest number of first doses administered on Sunday with 19,619 jabs, followed by Johor (17,651), Sabah (14,085) and Kelantan (13,170).

As for second doses, Johor topped the pile with 28,276 shots, followed by Kedah (24,541), Perak (17,701) and Pahang (14,505).

On Sunday, Malaysia reported 13,104 new Covid-19 cases, down from 13,899 logged the day before. This brought the country’s cumulative infection tally to 2.189 million.

Meanwhile, daily recoveries stood at 20,971, bringing total recoveries to 1.99 million.
