KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 4): The Ministry of Health (MoH) stated that the bulk of Covid-19 linked fatalities or 69.7% were detected from unvaccinated individuals.

Looking into the ministry’s COVIDNOW website, 22% came from partially vaccinated individuals, while only 8.3% were from fully vaccinated individuals.

In terms of percentage of deaths according to age group, individuals aged 60 years and above led with 53.4%, followed by 18 to 59 years (46.3%), zero to 11 years (0.2%), and 12 to 17 years (0.1%).

Malaysia reported 118 Covid-19-linked fatalities on Sunday (Oct 3), up 8.26% from 109 the day before.

This raised cumulative deaths linked to the coronavirus to 26,683 from 26,565 a day earlier, according to the MoH GitHub data repository.

Among the 118 fatalities, 27 cases were brought-in-dead (BID). This brought the number of BID cases nationwide to 5,367.

Perak led with the highest number of reported deaths at 26, followed by Penang (14), Sabah (14), Sarawak (12), Kedah (13) and Johor (11).

This was followed by Kelantan (nine), Selangor (eight), Pahang (three), Melaka (two) and Negeri Sembilan (two), while one fatality each was reported in Perlis, Terengganu, Kuala Lumpur and Labuan.

Reporting of Covid-19 deaths is backdated, particularly to include deaths where time is needed to ascertain the cause of death, and trends should be observed from the series based on the date of death (actual deaths), according to the ministry.

The actual number of Covid-19 deaths stood at 14 on Sunday, according to the ministry.

Malaysia had 150,317 active cases as of Sunday. Of this, 123,413 individuals were undergoing home quarantine, followed by those at Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (17,137), hospitalised (8,907) and in the intensive care unit (ICU), both unventilated (382) and ventilated (478).
