Malaysia’s Covid-19 cases fall to 7,420 on Oct 15 from 8,084

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 15): Malaysia reported 7,420 daily Covid-19 cases on Friday (Oct 15), said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement.

This represented a decline from 8,084 reported the previous day.

Of the latest infections, only 108 or 1.5% were serious, involving those in Categories 3 (patients with pneumonia), 4 (patients with pneumonia requiring oxygen therapy) and 5 (critical patients requiring assisted ventilation).

The remaining 7,312 cases or 98.5% involved people who showed no symptoms or mild symptoms (Categories 1 and 2).

There were 700 patients in intensive care units as of noon on Friday, of whom 635 were confirmed to be Covid-19 positive while 65 others were suspected to be infected.

Of those in intensive care, 364 required ventilators to breathe, Dr Noor Hisham revealed.

Meanwhile, daily recoveries continue to come in higher than new infections at 11,413.

A total of 2,251,758 recoveries have been recorded since the pandemic began, from a total of 2,377,033 infections detected, translating to a recovery rate of 94.7%.

The Health Ministry also announced 13 new clusters, including nine workplace clusters. The rest were communities, and private educational institutions clusters.

A total of 5,654 clusters have been reported across the country so far, including 4,933 that have been declared ended, leaving 721 active clusters.
