MELAKA (Oct 21): A Melaka Tengah Fire and Rescue Department firefighter passed away this morning, after losing consciousness during a flood rescue operation at Kampung Sungai Putat, Ayer Keroh yesterday (Oct 20).

In a media statement today, Melaka Fire and Rescue Department director Asst Comm Abu Bakar Katain said Mohd Diya Che Jusoh (pictured), the 46-year-old firefighter, passed away at 3.11am this morning (Oct 21).

“His funeral will be held at the Masjid An-Nur Cemetery, Krubong, at 10am today,” he added.

Mohd Diya lost consciousness during a flood rescue operation at Kampung Sungai Putat, Ayer Keroh at about 5.30pm on Oct 20.

Mohd Diya was believed to be securing a line in a flooded area to help villagers evacuate from their homes when he suddenly collapsed into the chest-high floodwaters.

He was rescued by a fellow firefighter after 10 minutes and rushed to Melaka Hospital for treatment.
