KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 23): Malaysia reported 5,828 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday, after staying above 6,000 daily cases for two consecutive days.

This brought the total number of infections nationwide to 2,426,050, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said in a statement.

He said the latest infections comprised 5,821 domestic cases and seven imported cases.

Dr Noor Hisham said 5,731 cases (98.3%) were under Categories 1 and 2, while 97 cases (1.7%) were classified under Categories 3, 4 and 5.

A total of 620 cases require treatment in the intensive care unit, with 297 requiring respiratory assistance.

Meanwhile, another 9,178 patients recovered from Covid-19, bringing cumulative recoveries to 2,320,391.

Dr Noor Hisham said two new Covid-19 clusters were detected in the 24 hours as of Saturday, for a total of 557 active clusters.

The two clusters are the Jalan Sentul Kluang and Blok 03 clusters in Kluang, Johor and Kinabatangan, Sabah, both being workplace clusters.

There has been a total of 5,719 clusters detected in Malaysia to date, of which 5,162 have been declared ended.
