PETALING JAYA (March 30): FIABCI Malaysia has honoured 17 property developers and projects during the Malaysia Property Awards 2021 award presentation ceremony held on Tuesday (March 29) in Petaling Jaya.

Organised by FIABCI Malaysia, the Malaysia Property Awards 2021 award presentation ceremony cum gala dinner was graced by Penang’s eighth Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Datuk Seri Utama Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Seri Utama Khadijah Mohd Nor.

The 17 awards from 13 award categories were given at the ceremony, of which two are individual awards, namely The Property Man and Property CEO. The winner of The Property Man is Mah Sing Group Bhd founder and managing director Tan Sri Leong Hoy Kum, while OSK Property Sdn Bhd CEO Ong Ghee Bin took home the Property CEO award.

Some winners of the night include Berjaya Hartanah Bhd, Gamuda Land, WB Land Sdn Bhd, UEM Sunrise Bhd, KL Eco City Sdn Bhd, Ken TTDI Sdn Bhd, Symphony Life Bhd, Hap Seng Land Sdn Bhd and YTL Land Bhd.

“Property developers must make bold, practical commitments. And it's clear that these commitments must then translate into an economy that is fully in harmony with our planet. Not just at a continental or national level, but in every region, city, and even in every kampung, every household across Malaysia and where Malaysian developers are present globally,” said FIABCI Malaysia president Datuk Seri Koe Peng Kang.

He added that as the environment, social and governance (ESG) agenda becomes more important the world over, Malaysian property developers will need to intensify their ESG plans in order to maintain their competitiveness in the global arena. FIABCI Malaysia members can look forward to many such related topic forums, talks and engagements as they strive to move their members together along this journey.

Meanwhile, organising chairman Yu Kee Su said the trend now is for developers to integrate lifestyle, technology, sustainability and automation into every aspect of their development projects in order to stand out.

He added that proptech is the latest buzzword now. It describes the application of technology in the property industry to make the entire real estate chain, such as property management, construction, buying and selling easier and more efficient. Hence the organising committee is considering adding sustainability and new technology into the criteria starting next year.

Koe also encouraged developers to submit their projects in the upcoming Malaysia Property Award 2022 where the winners will be entitled to compete at the international level, FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards 2023.
