KUALA TERENGGANU (April 14): Construction of the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project in Terengganu had progressed by 27.86% as of March, said Malaysia Rail Link (MRL) Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Datuk Seri Darwis Abdul Razak.
He said that currently, the high-impact project is running smoothly and according to the set schedule as a result of support and good commitment from the state government.
“The land acquisition process for the construction of the main ECRL line from Setiu to Kemaman has been fully completed in terms of gazetting, while the hearing is under way in the Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu districts.
“Alhamdulillah, the development of the project has been very good from all aspects and we really hope for cooperation from all parties for the project to run smoothly,” he said at an iftar (breaking of fast) event with MRL here on Wednesday (April 13) night.
Apart from that, according to him, the construction of six ECRL stations in Jertih, Bandar Permaisuri, Kuala Terengganu, Kemasik, Dungun and Chukai respectively is also scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of this year.
He said the Jertih, Bandar Permaisuri, Kuala Terengganu and Kemasik stations are specially designed for the use of passengers, while the Dungun and Chukai stations are for carrying cargo.
“We expect the construction work on the stations to be completed by mid-2024 and after that, there will be system work. It will be followed by a testing process before the full operation of the ECRL in January 2027,” he explained.
