KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 23): The late Johnny Cash’s home in rural Casitas Springs, California was recently sold for US$1.85 million (RM8.45 million).

According to a report from website TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, Cash’s property had actually been on the market for US$1.795 million, so the home changed hands for US$55,000 above the asking price – and the willing buyer was one of his fans.

The country music legend built the 4,500 sq ft home in 1961. He considered it a “quiet place to escape from the rock 'n roll lifestyle” with his wife Vivian and three daughters.

Spanning over nearly six acres, the double-gabled house at the end of a long, private driveway sits picturesquely among Cash’s beloved hills, fields, trees and flowers.

The home comes with five bedrooms, a pool, an office and barbecue area. There is also a country-motif family room and curved-brick fireplace, custom-wood built-ins, and an original wall-mounted turntable.

And most importantly, the wood-panelled studio where Cash wrote some of his biggest hits is preserved.

Local residents who have lived there for years told the website that Cash used to set up speakers on the hillside outside his house and played concerts for them.
