KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 5): MCC Overseas (M) Sdn Bhd (MCC Malaysia) has obtained an 89% Quality Assessment System in Construction (QLASSIC) score for the construction of The Face 2 Platinum Victory Suites, the highest rating recorded in history under the high-rise residential category since the system was introduced in 2007.

Completed in July 2022, The Face 2 Platinum Victory Suites is a 51-storey luxury condominium developed by Platinum Victory Property. With a total of 1,025 units, it comes with a variety of facilities, including an infinity pool with a 180° view of the KL city skyline.

During the QLASSIC score award press conference held at The Face 2 Platinum Victory Suites on Wednesday (Oct 5), managing director of Platinum Victory Property, Tan Sri Gan Yu Chai shared that the take-up rate of The Face 2 Platinum Victory Suites is more than half, while the occupancy rate is increasing since the units handover in July/August.

“For every project we have awarded, we request a minimum QLASSIC score from the contractor. For this project, we set a minimum score of 85% and MCC Malaysia has gone the extra mile and achieved 89%, which is the highest score of the high-rise residential category so far,” Gan told the press.

He added that MCC Malaysia is also the contractor of another two ongoing affordable projects launched by Platinum Victory, which he is confident that MCC Malaysia will once again achieve the minimum QLASSIC score target of 75%.

Meanwhile, managing director of MCC Malaysia, Li An Wei said: “We have reached this historic milestone with The Face 2 Platinum Victory Suites project, thanks to the passion and professionalism the team has demonstrated, and to receive the highest ever QLASSIC score is a testament to the company’s commitment and exemplary pursuit in workmanship quality in building construction”.

He noted that it was not an easy process, as the assessment of QLASSIC involved strict, rigorous and meticulous evaluations of over 600 materials and 300 residential units in the project.

Also present at the press conference was CIDB chief executive Datuk Ahmad Asri Abdul Hami. He said: “The achievement will serve as a role model for this industry and be a catalyst for all developers and construction companies to pursue quality in workmanship for all their building projects”.

According to Ahmad Asri, prior to the historical 89% score of QLASSIC by The Face 2 Platinum Victory Suites, the highest score was 86%.

“Ever since QLASSIC was introduced to the market, the average scoring has been increasing, meaning that the quality of buildings in Malaysia has continued to improve. The current average scoring [for high-rise residential] is 76%. I would think anything above 75% is good, and anything above 80% is outstanding,” said Ahmad Asri during the press conference.

MCC Malaysia is a wholly-controlled subsidiary of China’s state-owned enterprise China Metallurgical Group Corporation (MCC Group), a FORTUNE Global 500 company listed in both the Hong Kong and Shanghai stock exchanges. It was one of the earliest Chinese enterprises to enter the Malaysian market, in 1992.

MCC Malaysia has completed 17 projects across Malaysia so far, with some of their notable projects being The Face Suites, W Hotel and Residences, and the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park.
