KAPIT (Oct 20): Land acquisition by the government is unavoidable for the implementation of development projects for the benefit of the people, says Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pictured).
He said that each land acquisition from the people for a government project was not for free but based on the provisions in Chapter 81 of the State Land Code and Article 13 of the Federal Constitution.
“All the land acquired will receive compensation payment based on evaluation by the Sarawak Department of Land and Survey, taking into account the existing crops, building structures if any and the size of the land involved, based on the current value of the land.”
Nanta said this at the handing out of the Bumiputera Communal Reserve Gazette and compensation payment cheque for the Kapit Mara Professonal College construction project, here, today.
Nanta, who is also the incumbent Member of Parliament for Kapit, also said that it was not right for people to accuse the government of being mean to the land owners.
At the event, 18 landowners received their cheques for land compensation payment amounting to RM931,549.30.
