MELAKA (Dec 22): A Hong Kong investment company plans to build a RM200 million military-styled theme park in Klebang here next year.
Senior state executive councillor for investment, industry and entrepreneur development Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh said the proposal was submitted to him by the company's representative on Wednesday. The State Economic Planning Unit and agencies involved will evaluate it.
He told the media this at the Melaka River and Beach Development Corp’s (PPSPM) gathering Majlis Ramah Mesra dan Minum Petang which was attended by PPSPM chief executive officer Datuk Murad Husin.
The project is expected to add diversity to Melaka’s tourism offerings and attract more domestic and foreign tourists.
“This is an initial proposal and I found it very interesting at the project presentation yesterday. It was proposed that (the theme park) will be developed on Melaka Museum Corp land.
“Based on the proposal, the theme park will be equipped with various military-styled activities for children and adults in addition to a display of military vehicles at the military museum," Ab Rauf said.
He also said the state government aims to focus on attracting premium-class tourists, particularly those from Dubai and China with the opening of more five-star luxury hotels next year.
“More than three international standard luxury hotels with the potential to attract premium tourists will be opened next year and this will help grow Melaka’s tourism,” he said.
Meanwhile, Murad said a total 737,514 visitors used the Melaka River Cruise (MRC) boat service between Jan 1 and Dec 19, 2022, which is 98.34% of the targeted 750,000 visitors.
“We will set a target of 800,000 visitors next year with the various new products to be introduced including a new route between Pengkalan Rama and Batu Hampar via the Melaka’s phase two river beautification project. The River Information Centre is located at Pengkalan Rama.
“We are also upgrading various facilities involving the MRC including upgrading the jetty at Taman Rempah and Muara Sungai Melaka for the comfort of tourists and visitors," he said.
He said the Sigua Theme Park at Pirate Park will be developed at an investment of RM8 million. It is expected to open in October 2023.
It will have a variety of children's games and attractions such as a Ferris wheel and an upside down house, he said.
