KUALA LUMPUR (March 30): Tanco Holdings Bhd’s unit secured a RM43.37 million contract in relation to the construction of the East Coast Rail Link Project (ECRL).

Tanco’s wholly owned subsidiary Tanco Builders Sdn Bhd (TBSB) will undertake the construction and completion of subgrade works from C2CH34+499.980 to C2CH40+256.140, Section 9 of the project, it said.

TBSB accepted the letter of award dated March 29 from China Communications Construction (ECRL) Sdn Bhd (CCCESB).

The LOA is still subject to the execution of a detailed subcontract to be entered into between CCCESB and TBSB within fourteen days from the date of the LOA.

The ECRL project, spanning 665km and comprising 59 tunnels, includes construction works in four states, namely Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Selangor, and is designed to be flood-free.

The ECRL is expected to be operational in January 2027. It is reported that the project progress has reached more than 40% in Kelantan.

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in June 2022 that more than RM7 billion worth of civil works contracts had been offered to subcontractors and local suppliers for the ECRL project in the East Coast states as of April 2022.

Tanco shares closed 1.11% or half a sen higher to 45.5 sen per share, giving the company a market capitalisation of RM844.04 million.
