KUCHING (May 27): The Pan Borneo Highway project site for Package WPC11 (the Sungai Tangap-Pujut link in Miri, Sarawak), which is scheduled to be completed in stages starting this year until 2026, has reached 89% completion, according to Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pictured).
In a post on his official Facebook page on Saturday (May 27), he said the percentage does not include the construction of a 400m "viaduct" and the diversion of a 4.5km water pipe at the location.
"It is understood that during the road stabilisation work in this area, the site experienced soil settlement of up to 0.5 metre.
"The Pan Borneo project team has recommended that the 'viaduct' structure be built on the alignment of the route that has problems with soil settlement," he said in the post.
Nanta said the design of the viaduct had been finalised, and construction will be carried out in the third quarter of this year, and it will be fully completed in 2025.
He also assured that the viaduct construction work will not disrupt the flow of traffic in the area, because road users can still use the existing road next to the project site.
Meanwhile, he said the application to upgrade the Pujut Tiga roundabout, Miri and Pujut-Lutong road involving a distance of 3km had been implemented by the Sarawak Public Works Department, and taken on by the Ministry of Works into the Fourth Rolling Plan under the 12th Malaysia Plan.
