KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): Berjaya Land Bhd (BLand) has appointed Abang Abdillah Izzarim Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari as an independent and non-executive director, effective Thursday (Aug 10).

Abang Abdillah, 45, is the son of Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Abang Openg, more popularly known as Abang Johari or Abang Jo.

In June, Abang Abdillah was appointed as executive chairman of civil engineering company Sarawak Consolidated Industries Bhd.

Additionally, Izzarim assumes the role of a director at Cempaka Helicopter Corporation Sdn Bhd.

BLand said Abang Abdillah's entrepreneurial journey commenced with Aerotrain Charter, a company specialising in aviation cargo operations.

BLand has been in the news this week, with the company and Berjaya Corp Bhd founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan pursuing legal action against caretaker Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over alleged defamatory remarks relating to the Selangor Maritime Gateway (SMG) project.

The RM700 million SMG project involves the rehabilitation of the Klang River.

Shares in BLand closed unchanged at 27 sen, giving the group a market capitalisation of RM1.35 billion.
