KUALA LUMPUR, (Oct 11): It might be fake money you are using in the famous board property game of Monopoly but the top winner of the inaugural PropNex Monopoly Championship got to walk away with RM28,888 of real cash plus a VanillaCrepe franchise worth RM130,000.

All the drama took place at The Curve Damansara on the weekend of Oct 8 with Leonard Lai becoming the champion.

According to real estate agency PropNex Malaysia, the organiser of the event, the championship was “executed with tremendous success, offering an engaging and educational experience to all participants”.

This year's event garnered an impressive turnout, with thousands of enthusiastic participants and an astounding 600 individuals joining Round 2, marking a remarkable achievement in promoting financial literacy and property investment knowledge.

"We are thrilled with the overwhelming participation and the generous support we received from all parties," said Evon Heng, OC of Monopoly Championship and chief operating officer of PropNex Malaysia.

The event, which aimed to combine entertainment and education, achieved its objectives of teaching participants about cash flow management and asset management through the mechanics of the renowned Monopoly game.

"The primary goal was to facilitate learning and enjoyment while promoting financial literacy. We were pleased to see such a positive response, and those interested may register with us, as we are considering hosting this event again next year," said Marcus Teng, CEO of PropNex Malaysia.

“In addition to fostering financial literacy, the championship provided a rich learning experience, equipping attendees with essential financial knowledge in an engaging and interactive manner.

“Participants gained insights into property investment strategies, financial planning, and market dynamics, further enriching their understanding of the real estate market,” stated PropNex Malaysia in a media release.

The other winners were 3rd Runner Up - Aiden Chia, 2nd Runner Up - Ken Loo, 1st Runner Up - Tommy Tan.
