Titijaya appoints former KL mayor as chairman

• Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah, 64, served as the 13th mayor of Kuala Lumpur from Oct 1, 2020, to March 31, 2023. His appointment to the board of Titijaya Land was effective immediately, the company said in its filing on Friday.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 24): Property developer Titijaya Land Bhd has appointed former Kuala Lumpur mayor Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah as its new independent non-executive chairman.

Mahadi, 64, served as the 13th mayor of Kuala Lumpur from Oct 1, 2020, to March 31, 2023. His appointment to the board of Titijaya Land was effective immediately, the company said in its filing on Friday.

He is replacing Tengku Datuk Seri Uzir Ubaidillah, who retired as independent non-executive chairman at the end of his one-year term on Nov 28 last year.

Mahadi started his 40-year career with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) in April 1983 as a town planner, before rising up the ranks to eventually become executive director (planning) up until his retirement in 2019.

He left his retirement in 2020 to take on the mantle of mayor of the country’s capital city for two years and six months before bidding his farewell to the city hall. He was succeeded by Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh.

Mahadi is currently the vice-chairman of Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan and also a board member of MRT Lingkaran Sdn Bhd, a unit of Mass Rapid Transit Corp Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) which will undertake the delivery of the MRT Circle Line (MRT3) project.

Mahadi has “vast experience in urban and rural planning since 1986”, Titijaya said.

Titijaya, which is expanding its land portfolio within the Klang Valley, currently has six ongoing projects with gross development value of RM1.6 billion.

Among its recent projects in Kuala Lumpur are the ongoing Riveria City project in KL Sentral, and 3rdNvenue Neu Suites in Ampang.

Shares of Titijaya closed unchanged at 27 sen on Friday, giving it a market capitalisation of RM361.38 million.
