KUALA LUMPUR (May 16): AirAsia MOVE, the travel super-app by Capital A Bhd (KL:CAPITALA), has inked a memorandum of understanding with The Commune Mall to offer exclusive discounts spanning flights, hotels and rides deals to patrons of the mall.

Through this partnership, users of the AirAsia MOVE app will be able to earn one AirAsia point for every RM1 spent at any outlet at The Commune Mall and one Airasia Point for every RM5 spent on groceries, AirAsia MOVE said in a statement on Thursday.

The points can be spent on all flights in the AirAsia network, hotel bookings, and ride-hailing through AirAsia Ride, which are all available on the app.

The Commune Mall, poised to open its doors in the third quarter of 2024 in Kulai, Johor, will feature two major anchors, namely Johorean grocery chain Hwa Thai Supermart and Sports Affairs, serving as both a world-class sports facility and a versatile multi-purpose hall. It will offer 10 indoor badminton courts, two futsal courts and basketball facilities.

AirAsia MOVE chief executive officer Nadia Omer said the collaboration will be the first time the company offers the service of its loyalty programme, AirAsia Rewards, to its partner.

"This is a win-win partnership for both parties and we would like to invite potential partners to reach out to us for further collaboration,” she said.

Meanwhile, The Commune Lifestyle Mall chief executive officer David Kang said the collaboration perfectly aligns with the mall operator's vision of fostering a thriving community, beyond just serving as a mall.

"This partnership empowers our patrons to do just that — travel, explore new places, and create lasting memories — all while earning rewards through their everyday shopping at The Commune.

"The seamless integration with the AirAsia MOVE app adds a layer of convenience and exciting deals, making the entire experience even more rewarding," he said.

Shares of Capital A dipped 0.5 sen or 0.59% to 84.5 sen on Thursday, valuing the company at RM3.60 billion.
