KUALA LUMPUR (July 12): The Tourism, Arts, and Culture Ministry has assured that the latest conditions of the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme will not compromise national security.

In a report by the New Straits Times (NST), Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing (pictured) said the security screening methods conducted by the police on MM2H applicants remain unchanged.

"The security screening process is to ensure that only applicants with no criminal records, and who pose no threat to the country are eligible to participate in the MM2H programme," he said in a written parliamentary reply to questions by Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin (PN-Masjid Tanah) Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PN-Dungun) who asked about the MM2H programme and the security measures imposed.

Tiong added that it is compulsory for MM2H scheme applicants to provide a Certificate of Good Conduct.

Meanwhile, Tiong revealed that there are 57,608 active MM2H visa holders, comprising 28,312 principal visa holders, and 29,296 dependents as of May 31.
