KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 12): Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur is not for sale. A media release today had Ampang Hotel Sdn Bhd chairman Tan Sri Sallehuddin Mohamed stating that “owners and shareholders wish to assure our valued guests, partners and the community that Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur is not for sale”.

A news report last week revealed that Concorde Hotel is up for sale for nearly RM700 million, along with the adjacent land.

The report stated that the Kuala Lumpur hotel is linked to Singapore-based Malaysian tycoon Ong Beng Seng and that he and “and his partners are considering cashing out to pursue other investment opportunities”.

"Several investors have shown interest in redeveloping the site because of its prime location. However, the owners are not in a hurry to sell unless a very attractive offer comes through," a source told the Singapore Business Times.

Both the hotel and the land — covering a total of about 4.5 acres — are freehold properties.

Meanwhile, Sallehuddin said that “Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur continues to thrive, thanks to our dedicated team and loyal guests’.

“Our business is performing exceptionally well and we are seeing strong results. Our shareholders are satisfied with our progress and the direction we are taking,” he added.

Rebranded from the former Merlin Hotel, the hotel has been in operation for 67 years, since Malaysia’s independence.

“Concorde Hotel Kuala Lumpur is here to stay. We remain focused on enhancing our services and expanding our offerings to better serve our valued clientele. We appreciate the continued support and look forward to welcoming guests for many years to come” said Sallehuddin.
