KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 18): SkyWorld Development Bhd has completed its EdgeWood Residences project ahead of schedule, and through it, has showcased its concept of  healthy living.

The residential high-rise in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, which is part of the larger SkySanctuary community, was initially scheduled for completion in May, but the media was given a tour of the completed building today.

Based on the “SkyWorld Healthy Home” concept, it takes into account various aspects such as lighting, noise levels, ventilation and heat absorption in order to build a holistic approach towards wellness, said SkyWorld chief executive officer (CEO) Lee Chee Seng during the event.

He indicated that every unit in EdgeWood Residences has sufficient sunlight.

“50 to 100 lux (brightness level) is enough to see everything in your house and carry out daily activities. With a minimum of 100 lux, you can even read a book,” Lee said.

Stepping into the lobby, the design incorporates ventilation and glass to maximise natural light. The glass windows are designed to allow airflow, and a high ceiling has been created for improved ventilation.

EdgeWood Residences comprises two 43-storey towers, with 960 units in total.

“When you live in a high-rise building, ventilation naturally flows into the home, reducing the need for air-conditioning.

“[Also], instead of air conditioning in the lobby, we use large fans,” said Lee.

Lee explained that air-conditioning systems tend to need servicing every couple of years, hence such natural ventilation systems are more sustainable.

On mitigating noise pollution, especially in city living, Lee said: “When we designed this project, we considered how to minimise noise levels within the homes. The windows in the units here are designed with thickened mullions to keep noise levels below 50dB, similar to the level of sound produced by a computer”.

“The central park in EdgeWood Residences spans approximately three acres and features 72 different plant species and over 100,000 plantings to improve air quality. The air quality index (AQI) level of 2 contributes to the enhanced air quality," added SkyWorld assistant general manager David Chung (project audit).

“It is 99% sold, with only six units remaining, priced at RM530 psf,” Chung said.

The development comprises two 43-storey towers, providing a total of 960 units with various layouts, ranging from 865 to 1,280 sq ft. Residents here have a range of facilities, including a lap pool, a children’s pool and a mini cinema.

Looking ahead, Lee said that the “SkyWorld Healthy Home” concept will continue to be implemented in future projects, providing affordability and liveability to residents and fostering healthier living habits in their living spaces.
