- The establishment of SICK’s new facility further strengthens Senai Airport City’s ecosystem as a strategic hub for high-tech industries.
KUALA LUMPUR (May 9): German industrial sensor provider SICK AG will be establishing a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility at Senai Airport City, Johor, positioning it as the company’s regional industrial hub.
Its executive board member, Ulrike Kahle-Roth, said the new Malaysian facility marks a significant milestone in SICK’s global expansion, strengthening its supply chain and meeting growing demand for sensor-based solutions across key industries.
“By integrating social and training spaces, we are fostering a culture of safety, growth, and respect, empowered by Malaysia’s skilled talent,” she said in a statement on Friday.
The facility’s ground-breaking ceremony was held on May 8, and was officiated by Johor's state executive council member for investment, trade, and consumer affairs, Lee Ting Han, and SICK Malaysia managing director Suresh Kumar Somasundram.
SICK is planning to transfer operations from its current production site in Ulu Tiram, Johor, to the new facility in the third quarter of 2026.
Suresh Kumar said the facility is designed to enhance production capabilities, improve operational efficiency, and support sustainable growth in the Asia-Pacific region.
He said that with the company's strategic location in Senai Airport City, close to its key markets, the new factory will play an important role in the German firm’s long-term success.
“We are looking forward to continuing our trusted partnership with Johor,” he said.
Founded in 1946, SICK is a provider of sensor-based applications for industrial automation.
Headquartered in Waldkirch, Germany, the company operates 63 subsidiaries worldwide with more than 10,000 employees, generating a group revenue of €2.1 billion (RM10.2 billion) in 2024.
Meanwhile, Senai Airport City Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Gan Seng Keong said the decision by a global leader such as SICK to establish its advanced manufacturing hub here is an endorsement of its infrastructure readiness, world-class connectivity, and strategic location.
“At Senai Airport City, we are dedicated to driving sustainable industrial growth by offering strategic, infrastructure-ready solutions that meet the evolving demands of global investors,” he said.
According to the statement, the establishment of SICK’s new facility further strengthens Senai Airport City’s ecosystem as a strategic hub for high-tech industries.
With foreign direct investments already operational in Senai Airport City, it is said to align with the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone's target sectors, such as artificial intelligence, advanced electrical and electronics, automotive and electric vehicle, life sciences and healthcare.
These industries are essential to Johor’s economic transformation, and Senai Airport City’s rapidly growing industrial ecosystem is playing a crucial role in driving this change, the statement added.
