KUALA LUMPUR (May 23): The inaugural Malaysia Architecture Weeks 2025 (MAW 2025), a self-funded effort by a group of 34 local architects and designers, was launched on Friday.

To be held from May 24 to June 22 at UR-MU @ Toffee in Jalan Raja Chulan, MAW 2025 serves to showcase the works of local architects and offer a window into the stories, challenges and triumphs of Malaysian architecture. The exhibition will also feature a series of talks and workshops.

Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM) president Adrianta Aziz and Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming served as guests of honour at the launch event.

In his opening speech, Adrianta said the exhibition serves as a platform for growth for the architectural industry.

"This exhibition is more than just an event. It is also a hub for knowledge exchange and a space for collaborative exploration. It represents what happens when we move beyond individual [architectural] studios to build a shared ecosystem of learning and inspiration."

He added that Malaysian architects are fully capable of delivering world-class designs and hoped that the government and private sector would further recognise and engage them in shaping the country's future.

Concurring with Adrianta, Nga in his speech said MAW 2025 is more than just a celebration of design. "It is a reflection of our collective identity, showcasing talent and commitment to shaping a future where architecture uplifts, inspires and also connects.

"In this spirit, I call upon various ministries, developers and community leaders to work hand-in-hand with the architectural community to nurture local talent, celebrate design excellence and support initiatives that reflect the very best of Malaysian creativity and identity," said Nga.
