PETALING JAYA (June 3): Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said the state has enough water to support current and future developments, including data centres and high-tech industries.
The state aims to be a digital and sustainable hub, having secured two major data-centre projects—one green facility in Nilai backed by US investors, and another artificial intelligence (AI)-focused centre by Gamuda Bhd (KL:GAMUDA) in Port Dickson.
To support this growth, Negeri Sembilan is building a 67-million-litre-per-day, off-river storage (ORS) water treatment plant, tailored for data centres. It’s being developed by Gamuda and will be managed by Syarikat Air Negeri Sembilan.
Aminuddin said infrastructure like water, energy, and connectivity is being planned in advance, especially for key areas like Enstek and Techpark.
He was speaking during a question-and-answer session after the Negeri Sembilan: The Next Smart Frontier luncheon organised by MIDF Research, a wholly owned subsidiary of MBSB Bhd (KL:MBSB).
The projects are part of the Malaysia Vision Valley (MVV) 2.0, a 30-year plan to transform Seremban and Port Dickson into a strategic economic zone, including areas like Hamilton Tech Park, Labu’s Smart County, and NS Semiconductor Valley in Senawang.
He also said that the state is working with Malakoff Corporation Bhd (KL:MALAKOF) to supply clean energy in zones like Nilai and Enstek, to attract environmental, social, and governance (ESG)-conscious investors.
“Water and clean energy supply won’t be a problem. Our rates are competitive, and this puts us ahead of other regions facing water stress,” he added.
