SHAH ALAM (June 4): I-Bhd (KL:IBHD) has announced an initial commitment of RM10 million to roll out artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics infrastructure across its portfolio over the next four years to 2028.
In the official launch event today, I-Bhd director Datuk Eu Hong Chew explained that the AI and robotics infrastructure is designed to embed automation into both internal operations and customer-facing experiences, such as visitor flow management, robotics-assisted service delivery in commercial, retail and hospitality spaces and predictive maintenance.
“When we started I-City 20 years ago, we made technology the core of the development. As technology evolves, we have kept pace with technology by implementing the latest advances of technology into our projects. Our RM10 million investment is the continuation of our vision,” said Eu in his speech.
He added that the infrastructure has already been implemented in internal operations, while the upcoming new phase, the AI-driven system enhancements, will take place at Mercu Maybank in i-City, Shah Alam.
From there, implementation will extend across key portfolio assets of I-Bhd in i-City and Kuala Lumpur city centre, including Wyndham Suites KLCC, Wyndham Suites i-City, Wyndham Garden, DoubleTree by Hilton i-City, Central i-City Mall, a theme park, parking bays, a tier-3 data centre and residential developments.
As part of this infrastructure enhancement initiative, a robotic chef has been deployed at I-Bhd’s Wyndham Suites KLCC, a hotel and residences integrated development located at Jalan Kia Peng, to assist in preparing meals for buffet services and large-scale events; the security at i-City has also been enhanced by AI, implementing facial recognition access to specific floors in Mercu Maybank and an attendance system.
Moving forward, Eu expresses interest in deploying AI and robotics infrastructure to complete domestic chores across the company portfolio, such as elderly care, food deliveries and housekeeping.
In future plans, the tenants will be able to tap into the shared infrastructure by using the i-City SuperApp, which will serve as the central platform for integrating Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) capabilities across its asset ecosystem to optimise their own operations, according to the company.
“As a property developer, the issue is not focusing on the backend but on what AI and robotics can do to enhance the lifestyle of the residents and businesses in i-City. That’s what the vision of I-Bhd is all about,” said Eu.
The developer is currently in discussions with robotics and AI partners Unitree, DeepSeek and Baidu with the aim of positioning i-City as a scalable AI-powered development.
"We're not just building for today's demand. We are future-proofing our assets and creating an intelligent urban ecosystem where performance, experience and data work in sync. That's how we continue creating long-term value for our stakeholders,” Eu said.
