- The EV hubs are designed to support Malaysia’s net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2050, as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap, and will play a key role in reinforcing the country’s EV infrastructure network along key travel routes.
KUALA LUMPUR (June 11): PLUS Malaysia Bhd and Yinson GreenTech will collaborate to develop and operate integrated retail and electric vehicle (EV) charging hubs at selected locations along the North-South Expressway, with the first hub at the Seremban southbound rest and service area (R&R) expected to be ready by 2027.
The collaboration is formalised through a joint-venture agreement between the companies’ subsidiaries, Terra PLUS Sdn Bhd and Green EV Charge Sdn Bhd, with each party taking on specific roles to enhance the EV travel experience on Malaysian highways.
PLUS will spearhead the development and management of the hub’s commercial retail and food and beverage (F&B) components, while Yinson GreenTech will be responsible for the installation, operation, and management of the EV chargers.
“These hubs will boost the EV charging experience, differentiating from other EV charging infrastructure by offering a complete stopover experience—featuring reliable, direct current (DC) fast chargers alongside a vibrant retail and F&B offerings for EV owners to enjoy while their vehicles charge,” the companies said in a joint statement on Wednesday.
The EV hubs are designed to support Malaysia’s net-zero carbon emissions goal by 2050, as outlined in the National Energy Transition Roadmap, and will play a key role in reinforcing the country’s EV infrastructure network along key travel routes.
“This collaboration marks a strategic milestone in supporting the national Low Carbon Mobility Blueprint 2030 and our aspirations towards a sustainable and smart highway for enhanced travel experience for our highway customers,” PLUS managing director Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar was quoted as saying.
She said the hub serves beyond just providing EV charging facilities and represents a transformative step forward in integrating mobility and lifestyle services for PLUS highway customers, setting new standards for R&R.
Meanwhile, Yinson GreenTech chief executive officer Lim Chern Yuan said the hubs are designed to address challenges faced by EV drivers and accelerate the adoption of EVs in Malaysia.
“With high-speed and dependable chargers deployed at critical locations nationwide, we are helping alleviate range anxiety and remove the barrier to EV adoption. We are committed to advancing Malaysia’s green mobility ambitions,” he said.
To date, a total of 112 DC fast-charging points have been energised on PLUS highways, already surpassing the 2025 target.
The upcoming Seremban R&R hub is expected to pave the way for future developments and support the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry’s goal of installing 10,000 EV charging points nationwide.
