KUALA LUMPUR (June 20): Setia Foundation, the charity arm of S P Setia Bhd, successfully concluded its “Sincerely, Setia Youth Engagement” (SSYE) initiative with a Casio Workshop and closing ceremony on May 8, 2025 at the Technical andVocational Education and Training (TVET) Hall of Kolej Vokasional Beaufort, Sabah.
The foundation also held the integrated “Sincerely, Setia Festive (Kaamatan) & Healthcare Assistance Programme” on May 24, 2025.
The SSYE is a continuation for students who had received scientific calculators as part of the initiative, stated Setia Foundation in a media release.
The SSYE programme was first launched on Jan 7, 2025, with the donation of 350 scientific calculators to B40 secondary students in Beaufort, Sabah. This was followed by the distribution of 150 pairs of spectacles to B40 primary students across 31 schools under the PPD Kota Kinabalu and PPD Penampang on Jan 8, 2025. To date, these initiatives have benefited 457 students by providing them with essential tools to enhance their learning experience.
“Through the Sincerely Setia Youth Engagement (SSYE) and our partnerships that are guided by our Trust Objects, we are empowering Sabah’s B40 students with essential supplies such as scientific calculators and eyewear to bridge the gap in learning accessibility. The Casio Workshop further ensures these resources translate into tangible academic progress,” said Setia Foundation’s management committee and Setia’s senior executive vice-president, Datuk Yuslina Mohd Yunus.
During the Casio Workshop, students had the privilege of learning from CASIO’s product specialist for scientific & graphing calculators, Amar Safwan Roslin, who conducted an interactive hands-on session to help them maximise the use of their calculators and improve their academic performance.
Meanwhile, as part of its ongoing commitment to the community in Sabah, Setia Foundation successfully held the “Sincerely, Setia Festive (Kaamatan) & Healthcare Assistance Programme” at Dewan Komuniti, Kampung Tudan. The programme benefited 64 families under the B40 category (equivalent to 267 individuals) through festive support and essential healthcare services, stated Setia Foundation.
“Beyond education, our integrated Festive and Healthcare Assistance Programme addresses holistic needs while bringing festive joy through essential supplies and protecting community health.
“Through our collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) and local leaders, we are ensuring good health and well-being benefits for Sabah's communities,” said Yuslina.
The programme comprised a basic health screening session conducted by UMS volunteers, which included BMI, blood sugar, and blood pressure checks. Blood tests were also performed to identify those needing de-worming treatment.
The programme also featured a healthcare session featured a talk by Dr S Muhammad Izuddin Rabbani Mohd Zali, which focused on rabies awareness, further highlighting its risks, prevention methods, and the importance of timely medical attention.
Additionally, 11 student volunteers, spearheaded by UMS student club advisor, Dr Zulkhairul Naim Sidek Ahmad from the One Health Student Club conducted a CPR demonstration, and shared life saving tips with attendees.
Each family received a Kaamatan gift basket worth RM100, containing essential food items such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, flour, mee, sardines, and biscuits, helping to ease the festive burden and spread seasonal cheer.
