KUALA LUMPUR (July 17): TSM Global Bhd and Marriott International Inc on Thursday signed an agreement to convert Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur in Seksyen 16, Petaling Jaya, into the five-star Petaling Jaya Marriott Hotel. The conversion will cost close to RM100 million.

In Thursday’s signing ceremony, TSM Global said that while Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur has been undergoing renovations, it has remained operational and will continue to do so.

This confirmed a report by The Edge Malaysia, published for the week of June 30 to July 6, which wrote that Eastin KL will reopen as a Marriott-branded hotel.

The renovation will take 18 months and is slated for completion in December 2026. The first phase, which is expected to complete by end-2025, includes a full transformation of the lobby area and redesigning of some guest rooms.

Upon completion, the hotel will feature 393 rooms with facilities such as an exclusive club lounge and reserved area for Elite and Club members, all-day dining with restaurants featuring Chinese cuisine and a pop-up restaurant, as well as a kids club.

“We are excited to collaborate with Marriott International and introduce the Marriott Hotel brand to this strategic location. This signing represents our commitment to elevating hospitality standards in Malaysia and we look forward to creating a compelling destination that delivers quality, consistency and global recognition,” said TSM Global director Lim Tze Thean.

Meanwhile, Marriott International’s vice-president for hotel development in the Asia-Pacific (excluding China) Andree Susilo said that the partnership marks a step forward in Marriott’s expansion in Malaysia and underscored the growing demand for global hospitality brands in key urban markets.

“We are pleased to collaborate with TSM Global on this strategic conversion project that will introduce the trusted Marriott Hotel brand to the dynamic commercial corridor of Petaling Jaya,” said Susilo.

The hotel is strategically located along the Sprint highway with easy access to the North-South Expressway (NSE) and is within walking distance of the Phileo Damansara MRT station. The drive from KL Sentral, Kuala Lumpur’s main transportation hub, is a 15-minute drive away with direct link to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
