- Ongoing dispute surrounding a 300m stretch of land legally acquired by the government is preventing full connection of the highway.
KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 12): A delay in the completion of Section 3 of the West Coast Expressway is disrupting route planning and forcing hauliers to rely on existing congested roads, an industry association said.
The overdue Section 3, which stretches from Banting to Klang, is now directly impacting the mobility of 10,000 prime movers and trailers, the Association of Malaysian Hauliers (AMH) said in a statement. The body complained of higher travel time and operation costs as well as delivery uncertainty from the delay.
“The delay in Section 3 is a major setback for transporters, especially those who depend on timely access to and from Port Klang, which remains a key gateway for Malaysian trade,” said Mohamad Azuan Masud, the executive secretary of the association.
The 10km section connects North Klang Valley Expressway with the Federal Highway is 93% complete, according to the project’s website.
However, ongoing dispute surrounding a 300m stretch of land legally acquired by the government is preventing full connection of the highway. The project owner said in an April statement that it has the full right and was working with authorities to complete the section.
The association calls on the relevant authorities, including the Ministry of Works, the Malaysian Highway Authority, and the project concessionaire to expedite efforts to resolve outstanding land matters and ensure the project stays on track.
While AMH “acknowledges the complexity of land acquisition processes, it is essential that all stakeholders work together to resolve the matter in the interest of national economic development,” Mohamad Azuan added.
