KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 15): IJM Corporation Bhd (KL:IJM), via its wholly owned subsidiary IJM Construction Sdn Bhd, has secured a RM1.4 billion contract to build a large-scale data centre in Johor Bahru, its biggest data centre project to date.
This marks IJM Construction’s fourth data centre project in Johor. The client’s identity was not disclosed in the group’s Friday statement.
The fast-track contract involves constructing a six-storey data centre with integrated office facilities, as well as a refuse and recycling facility. It boosts IJM Corp’s outstanding order book to RM9.2 billion, from RM7.6 billion as at end-March 2025.
With a gross floor area of about 62,000 square metres, IJM Construction will undertake the full civil and structural works using a pre-cast system—including columns, beams and hollow-core slabs—complemented by steel structures for mechanical and electrical (M&E) plant installations.
The project, scheduled for completion in September 2026, carries a 13-month delivery timeline.
“This project demonstrates IJM Construction’s ability to deliver complex, high-specification facilities on accelerated schedules,” said IJM Corp group chief executive officer and managing director Datuk Lee Chun Fai.
“By applying our core strengths in structural delivery and execution, we are able to meet the demands of today’s hyperscale data centre market for speed, quality and scalability.
The surge in artificial intelligence (AI), cloud services and high-density computing is spurring record investment in Malaysia’s digital infrastructure. Johor’s role as a strategic regional hub makes such projects vital, and IJM Corp is well-positioned to provide the capacity and performance that operators demand, he added.
Shares of IJM closed up three sen or 1.04% at RM2.92 on Friday, giving the construction company a market capitalisation of RM10.65 billion.
