KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 26): Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown (pictured) officially opened its doors on Tuesday, marking the return of the Hyatt Regency brand to Kuala Lumpur and representing Hyatt Hotels Corporation’s seventh property in the city.
The development is led by KL Midtown Sdn Bhd, a partnership between Hap Seng Land Sdn Bhd, a unit of Hap Seng Consolidated Bhd (KL:HAPSENG), and TTDI KL Metropolis Sdn Bhd, a unit of Naza TTDI Sdn Bhd.
The five-star hotel is the first component to open at KL Midtown, which will also feature 500,000 sq ft of retail space, signature and corporate towers and residential apartments. The retail component will be anchored by AEON.
“This hotel is not only the first component of KL Midtown, but also the first hotel to be in operation within the KL Metropolis overall development. This development complements well with the near presence of the country’s largest international exhibition centre (the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre or Mitec),” said SM Faliq SM Nasimuddin, the deputy chairman of Naza Group, at the opening ceremony.
KL Midtown is an 8.95-acre development within KL Metropolis, a 75.5-acre development undertaken by Naza TTDI. Its key collaborator for KL Metropolis is Hap Seng Land.
Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown was designed by renowned Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, and comprises 306 guestrooms and suites alongside 104 fully serviced residences, catering to both short-term travellers and extended-stay guests.
Located at the Dutamas and Mont Kiara neighbourhoods, the hotel is within walking distance of Mitec while offering easy access to major highways, business districts, cultural landmarks and lifestyle hubs.
The property also aims to position itself as a hub for global events, with 16 flexible function spaces spanning three floors, including a pillarless ballroom and meeting rooms equipped with advanced technology.
According to Hyatt Hotels, architect Kuma’s vision for the hotel integrates natural materials such as wood, stone and paper, creating a design that blends Japanese heritage with contemporary sophistication, fostering a serene yet dynamic atmosphere.
“We are proud to reintroduce the Hyatt Regency brand to the heart of Malaysia’s capital,” said Hyatt Hotels Asia-Pacific group president David Udell at the opening ceremony.
The hotel’s opening represents the homecoming for the brand after Hyatt Regency Saujana near the Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Selangor closed its doors 20 years ago.
“Hyatt Regency was the first Hyatt brand to open in Malaysia 45 years ago,” said Udell.
Hyatt Regency Kuala Lumpur at KL Midtown is Hyatt Hotels’ third property in the city to open in the last one year.
Last December, it launched Hyatt Centric City Centre Kuala Lumpur — in collaboration with Hap Seng—and earlier this month, it opened the first Park Hyatt hotel in Malaysia at the iconic Merdeka 118 tower.
