KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 9): Paragon Globe Bhd (KL:PGLOBE) (PGB) has inaugurated Johor’s first Provisional GreenRE Silver-certified worker hostel at Pekan Nanas Industrial Park.

The PGB Hostel Pekan Nanas, developed and managed by its wholly owned subsidiary Paragon Bizhub Sdn Bhd, is also the first purpose-built hostel in Pekan Nanas. The certification, awarded under Malaysia’s green building rating system, recognises best practices in energy efficiency, water conservation, indoor environmental quality, and sustainable materials.

According to a press release on Tuesday, the ceremony was officiated by Johor State Investment, Trade, Consumer Affairs and Human Resources Committee chairman Lee Ting Han, and attended by Singapore’s Consul-General in Johor Bahru Ng Kuan Khai, Pekan Nanas state assemblyman Tan Eng Meng, and Pontian district officer Kamalludin Jamal. They were joined by Paragon Globe executive chairman Datuk Seri Edwin Tan Pei Seng and group executive director Datuk Seri Godwin Tan Pei Poh.

Sitting on 4.1 acres of freehold land, the development comprises four five-storey blocks with a total of 240 apartment units. Phase 1, which was launched on Tuesday, includes two blocks, housing 105 units, each designed to accommodate 15 workers per unit, with two bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen, living room and yard.

Upon full completion of both phases, the hostel will support up to 3,600 workers with over 347,000 sq ft of built-up area, including canteens, recreational zones, and on-site management facilities.

“This hostel represents more than just accommodation—it is a milestone for PGB and Johor,” said Edwin. “We are committed to supporting Johor’s rapid industrial growth by providing safe, modern, and compliant worker housing solutions. With Provisional GreenRE certification, we are also embedding sustainability into our developments, showing that worker accommodation can be both practical and environmentally responsible.”

Tenants already include Shimano Components (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, Sunlig Sdn Bhd, Senku Production Engineering Sdn Bhd, Inmost Industries Sdn Bhd, Allgood Enterprise Sdn Bhd, and CCL Impex (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.

Paragon Globe sees this development as a long-term recurring income stream, aligned with Johor’s industrial expansion and sustainability goals, amid catalysts such as the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone and the upcoming Rapid Transit System Link.
