KUALA LUMPUR (Sept 11): Vantage Data Centers said on Thursday it plans to acquire a hyperscale data centre campus in Johor as part of a US$1.6 billion (RM6.8 billion) investment secured to expand in Asia-Pacific.

The campus in Sedenak Tech Park is part of Yondr Group’s portfolio recently acquired by DigitalBridge Group Inc, which is also one of Vantage’s largest investors. With the addition of Johor, Vantage will have one gigawatt of operational and planned capacity across Asia, the company said in a statement.

Singapore sovereign wealth fund GIC and its counterpart Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) have agreed to support Vantage’s acquisition in Johor and provide additional capital for further growth of its Asia platform.

“The new commitment from GIC and ADIA underscores the growing opportunity in the region for digital infrastructure” driven by accelerating demand for artificial intelligence (AI), Vantage said.

Set on nearly 73 acres, the Johor campus, to be known as JHB1, will deliver more than 300MW of capacity across three centres once fully developed. The campus is located in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone.

A wave of data centre projects is sweeping across Malaysia amid a boom in demand for digital infrastructure to handle AI and advanced computing. Johor alone is expected to host more than half of the country’s new data centre capacity by 2030, official estimates show.

“With the support of GIC and ADIA, we are positioned as one of the largest providers of sustainable AI and cloud digital infrastructure in the region,” said Jeremy Deutsch, the president of Vantage Data Centers for Asia-Pacific.

The investment as well as the Johor campus acquisition are expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions, Vantage noted.
