- The Cold Storage store will anchor the first phase of The Tenz. Tenz Emporium forms part of The Tenz, a RM350 million mixed-use development that integrates residential, hospitality and commercial components.
KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 13): Imperio Group has signed a lease agreement with GCH Retail (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd to open a Cold Storage outlet at Tenz Emporium in Alor Setar, marking the supermarket chain’s first presence in Kedah.
“Cold Storage will anchor the first phase of the master plan in The Tenz, making daily essentials, fresh produce and specialty items just a short stroll from home,” the company said in a statement.
Cold Storage will be the sole tenant of the refurbished building, previously known as the Tai Kuan cinema, with a total floor area of 17,205 sq ft.
The landlord is targeting handover by end-December, ahead of Chinese New Year 2026, with opening to follow subject to completion.
The Cold Storage store will anchor the first phase of The Tenz, located within a landscaped setting designed to enable “15-minute living”.
Tenz Emporium forms part of The Tenz, a RM350 million mixed-use development that integrates residential, hospitality and commercial components.
The development features a six-storey podium topped by three towers. The components include 349 serviced apartments under Vivre Residence, 84 serviced suites branded as Vaycay Suites, and 5,697 sq m of retail space known as Tenz Commons. There will also be a 154-room hotel operated by Ibis Styles — the first international hotel chain to enter the city.
Completion of the full development is targeted for 2028.
A pedestrian walkway will link the supermarket to the adjacent residences and precinct.
Imperio said the collaboration is part of a broader effort to revive city-centre activity and repurpose heritage assets for modern community use.
