PENANG (Oct 15): Setia Foundation, the charity arm of S P Setia Bhd recently completed the first phase of its STEM Stars Programme, under its Sekolah Angkat Madani initiative, benefitting 1,255 students from Standards 4 to 6 across nine schools in Penang, Selangor, and Johor.

The programme is meant to “spark early interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) among B40 students”, stated S P Setia in a media release yesterday.

Held over 14 event days from Aug 19 to Sept 10, 2025, the programme provided immersive, hands-on learning experiences through two key activities; (1) Computer Lab Sessions, where students explored Micro: bit programming and (2) Smart home technology and Interactive STEM Stations, featuring real-time Q&A challenges and exploration of various STEM kits.

"Guided by our LiveLearnWorkPlay philosophy, Setia is committed to creating meaningful learning opportunities for all communities we serve. This STEM Stars Programme embodies our spirit of togetherness in nurturing young minds, particularly among underserved students and igniting their passion for innovation and discovery,” said Datuk Yuslina Mohd Yunus, Management Committee Member of Setia Foundation and chief operating officer of S P Setia Bhd.

The programme was implemented in partnership with Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), under the leadership of Mohd Hafiz Ismail from the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and Technology (FKTEN), with sessions facilitated by UniMAP students in collaboration with Setia Volunteers.

A highlight of Phase 1 was the session held at SJKT Tasek Permai on Sept 8, 2025, attended by Datuk Tengku Marina Tunku Annuar, chairperson of S P Setia Foundation and Board Member of S P Setia, Yuslina, and Mohd Hafizi Bin Abdul Majid, deputy district education officer of Seberang Perai Selatan.

Phase 2 of the STEM Stars Programme is scheduled for late November and early December 2025.

"We are not just educating STEM concepts; we are cultivating future innovators who can apply their learning to real-world challenges. The creativity and enthusiasm we have witnessed reaffirms our commitment to expanding educational opportunities for our beneficiaries,” added Yuslina.
