PUTRA HEIGHTS (Oct 17): The Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) officially launches its new building, Bangunan Persatuan Kontraktor Binaan Malaysia, located along Persiaran Harmoni, Putra Heights in Selangor on Friday.

Officiated by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia chairman Datuk Yusuf Abd Wahab, the event was attended by about 180 industry leaders, partners and the association's scholarship recipients.

The event also saw the presentation of MBAM Education Fund Scholarships 2025.

In his welcome remarks during the launch ceremony, MBAM president Oliver HC Wee highlighted that the building embodies the essence of sustainable, forward-thinking construction.

"The design is [a] deliberate nod to innovation, efficiency and environmental stewardship—hallmarks of the future we are building for our industry," he said.

Completed and occupied on June 16, 2025, the building spans 17,646 sq ft and is now fully utilised as a hub for mediation, training and fellowship.

Constructed with Gamuda Bhd's (KL:GAMUDA) next-gen digital industrialised building system, the design process also heavily relied on Building Information Modelling (BIM) design throughout, with continuous monitoring by BIM during construction.

As MBAM is an advocate of the CIDB Malaysia’s Standard Form of Contract for Building Works (2022 Edition), which modernises the 2000 edition and adds collaborative contracting elements including expanded options for mediation and the Dispute Resolution Board, the new building was administered using the standard.

With the use of technology and CIDB standard, Wee said the construction process of the new building saw minimal variation orders and a negligible requirement for an extension of time.

He also noted that in an era where Malaysia's construction landscape is transforming at breakneck speed, having been fuelled by mega-projects, sustainable urban developments and the push toward net-zero emissions, this facility positions MBAM at the forefront of that evolution.

"[Our goal is] to elevate Malaysian construction not just regionally, but globally—ensuring that when the world looks to us, they see excellence etched in every beam and blueprint through this hub," he said.

Meanwhile, Yusuf said in his speech that by constructing using technology, MBAM's new building reduced the reliance on foreign labour and encouraged on-time delivery—and this should be the way forward for the industry.

He also noted that CIDB is always supportive towards the construction industry.

"We are always listening to what the industry wants, and we try to accommodate and make things easy for the contractors. Continue to work with us, raise any issues and we will discuss them together for the betterment of the industry," he added.
