The moment that reshaped Lau Pik Kwong's real estate career came when he joined The Roof JB EAG team. The platform, he says, gave him not only room to grow but also the confidence and direction to take on challenges that turned him from a steady agent into a consistent high performer.
He attributes much of his success to clarity of purpose and disciplined goal-setting. “The way I set goals is simple, I start by asking myself who I truly want to become,” he explained. “From there, I break that vision down into yearly, monthly, and daily actions. But setting goals is only the beginning.
Execution matters most
For Lau, direction and discipline matter more than motivation. He reviews his progress regularly, speaks his goals out loud, and keeps his purpose at the centre of everything he does. “When you have direction, emotions won’t distract you, and when you take action, challenges won’t stop you.”
What sets Lau apart is his integrity-driven approach to client relationships. He doesn’t see his work as merely closing deals but as protecting his clients’ long-term interests. “I treat every property decision as if it were my own,” he shared. “Clients often tell me they feel safe working with me not because I promise high returns, but because I’m honest, practical, and always think a few steps ahead.”
Lau’s journey began with a focus on residential properties in Johor Bahru, particularly first-time homebuyers and entry-level investors. Over time, his portfolio expanded to include shop lots, factories, and education-based commercial units, reflecting his growth alongside his clients.
You grow fastest when you don’t grow alone
He credits mentorship, training, and networking as key pillars of his development. “I’m not someone who figured it all out alone,” he reflected. “Being in the right environment with the right people kept my mindset sharp and my momentum strong.
To Lau, service, sales, and self-growth are deeply interconnected. He believes that serving with heart builds trust, and trust drives long-term success. Looking ahead, his next benchmark is to build a strong, self-sustaining team, one that can perform and grow beyond his individual capacity.
“It’s no longer just about how much I can close,” he said. “It’s about how far I can lead others.”
