KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 12): Telekom Malaysia Bhd (KL:TM) said its joint venture with Nxera has secured a multi-year electricity supply for a planned data centre campus in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
The agreement with Tenaga Nasional Bhd (KL:TENAGA) provides 280MW for the data centre targeted for the first phase of commercial operations in 2026, Telekom Malaysia said in a statement on Monday (Jan 12). The facility is designed to support large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) workloads, it said.
“The facility will serve as a cornerstone of the country’s digital infrastructure, supporting hyperscalers, AI application providers and enterprises to accelerate digital transformation and cloud adoption across the region,” the company said.
The data centre is being developed by TM Nxera, a 51:49 joint venture between Telekom Malaysia and Singapore Telecommunications Ltd's data centre arm Nxera. The project on land sprawling over 168,000 sq m is expected to require investments of over RM1 billion.
Connectivity for the data centre campus will be backed by subsea cable networks of Telekom Malaysia and the company also known as Singtel.

Financial details and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
The agreement “is a critical step forward for our state-of-the-art, green digital infrastructure in Johor,” according to Mahathir Said, TM Nxera CEO. “It will be a strategic catalyst to accelerate the adoption of AI, cloud and advanced technologies across industries.”
