MELAKA (April 3): A total of 34 previously sick projects under PR1MA Malaysia Corporation have been completed, enabling 22,925 buyers to finally receive their homes after years of waiting.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming (pictured) said the milestone was achieved with the handover of keys for the final two projects, Residensi Klebang 2 and Residensi Bukit Katil.

“The government inherited 34 PR1MA sick projects involving 22,925 housing units nationwide.

“Today, we declare that all 34 projects have been fully completed, have obtained the Certificate of Completion and Compliance, and the keys have been handed over to buyers,” he said at a press conference after officiating the key handover ceremony for Residensi Klebang 2 and Residensi Bukit Katil here on Thursday.

Also present was Melaka Housing, Local Government, Drainage, Climate Change and Disaster Management Committee chairman Datuk Rais Yasin.

Nga described the achievement as a historic milestone, marking the resolution of long-standing issues involving sick PR1MA projects, many of which were affected by disruptions during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We have not only resolved inherited problems, but more importantly, we have helped 22,925 buyers, particularly from the B40 and M40 (bottom 40% and middle 40% income groups), finally own and live in their dream homes,” he said.

To prevent a recurrence, Nga said the government is targeting zero sick or abandoned housing projects by 2030, alongside plans to develop more than 4,351 additional PR1MA housing units.

He added that homeownership remains a key pillar of public well-being and household economic stability.

“Housing is not only a basic necessity but also an investment that can generate long-term asset value,” he said.

However, the sector continues to face challenges from global uncertainties, including rising construction material costs and inflationary pressures.

“We will continue to closely monitor project developments and market conditions to ensure housing remains affordable while curbing speculative activities,” he said.

Nga reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering quality, affordable housing while promoting sustainable and thriving communities nationwide.
