PETALING JAYA (April 10): EXAL Malaysia carried out a community outreach initiative in collaboration with Majlis Perbandaran Padawan (MPP), benefiting 31 underprivileged families across Kuching.
According to a statement on Thursday, the programme, held from March 17 to 19, involved the distribution of approximately RM15,000 worth of essential food supplies to B40 households and single mothers.
The initiative forms part of the company’s broader community engagement efforts alongside its property development activities.
The programme was led by EXAL Malaysia managing director Albert Ko, in partnership with MPP chairman Tan Kai and councillors Mohammad Fauzi Ali and Shamsuddin Unai, as well as local community leaders.
The outreach covered areas such as Kampung Pinggan Jaya, Kampung Tanjong Bako, Kampung Paya MEBI, Kampung Sinar Budi Baru, Kampung Sejijak, Kampung Stapok, Kampung Sri Arjuna and Kampung Haji Baki.
“At EXAL, building communities goes beyond delivering homes. It means contributing meaningfully to the people who live in them,” said Ko.
The initiative was part of EXAL Malaysia’s approach to incorporating community-related activities into its operations.
The programme also reflects broader industry practices in Malaysia, where developers are increasingly incorporating environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations into their activities. Guidelines by Bursa Malaysia identify community engagement and social impact as components of long-term corporate value and stakeholder considerations.
EXAL Malaysia is expanding its presence in Sarawak, where it is undertaking development projects.
EXAL Group was founded in 2016 and is headquartered in Perth, Australia. Its developments in Western Australia include Melvista on Broadway in Nedlands, Eden on Riseley within the Riseley Activity Centre, and the Waterford Purpose-Built Student Accommodation near Curtin University.
The group has a development pipeline in Perth with a gross development value exceeding RM3 billion. Its project in Sarawak, SÓL Estate, marks its first development outside Australia.
