KUALA LUMPUR (April 15): Malaysia and Singapore will continue to expedite the implementation of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), including exploring cooperation in green technologies through carbon capture, utilisation and storage (CCUS).

Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir (pictured) said the matter was discussed during a meeting with Tan See Leng, Singapore’s Minister for Manpower and Minister-in-charge of Energy, Science and Technology, at the Economy Ministry on Wednesday.

“We definitely discussed continuing to expedite JS-SEZ cooperation, a key cross-regional initiative of the Economy Ministry that is a ‘game changer’ in enhancing economic complexity in both countries,” he said in a Facebook post.

Akmal Nasrullah said Singapore remains Malaysia’s most important Asean trading partner, with total trade for January-October 2025 rising to RM339.39 billion.

“This is a significant figure reflecting the economic potential generated,” he said.

During the meeting, both parties discussed in depth the potential for cooperation in green technologies through CCUS, as well as the readiness of Malaysia and Singapore in addressing global energy challenges following tensions in West Asia.

“I believe that through sincere and strategic cooperation, both countries will continue to benefit in a win-win situation.

“Most importantly for me is how these multi-billion ringgit investments can be translated into better economic and career opportunities for our youth, in Johor Bahru specifically as well as in Malaysia as a whole,” he added.
