PETALING JAYA (May 21): The Real Estate and Housing Developers' Association Malaysia (Rehda) has expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) for its continued commitment to supporting the housing industry through Inisiatif Simen Rahmah amid rising construction material costs and ongoing global economic pressures.
According to a statement by Rehda president Datuk Ho Hon Sang, the association views the initiative as effective public-private collaboration in addressing housing affordability challenges and enhancing the well-being of Malaysians.
Since its implementation in 2023, Skim Simen Rahmah has recorded the utilisation of 317,000 metric tonnes of cement to support the construction of 11,909 affordable homes, according to a statement by KPKT minister Nga Kor Ming.
The government has further allocated 1.6 million metric tonnes of cement to support the construction of approximately 500,000 units of affordable housing nationwide through the expanded initiative.
Rehda urged its members to utilise Inisiatif Simen Rahmah responsibly and in strict adherence to established guidelines, in line with its objective to support affordable housing developments for the benefit of homebuyers and the industry.
The association said it will continue to encourage members to uphold their nation-building role in providing quality, affordable homes for Malaysians in a timely and sustainable manner.
