KUALA LUMPUR (May 22): Mesiniaga Bhd (KL:MSNIAGA) and I-Bhd (KL:IBHD) have teamed up to develop a central platform aimed at connecting multiple systems in i-City in Selangor.
The developers say their ‘urban intelligence platform’ is different from traditional smart home systems that require residents to use separate apps and devices. Instead, the platform powered by artificial intelligence (AI) is expected to function as a single layer that coordinates multiple systems.
Dubbed Luma, the platform is envisioned as the “brain” of i-City’s AI Living project to bridge the various technologies and robotics spread across the development, putting them under one network instead of fragmented applications.
“AI Living marks a significant step forward from stand-alone smart technologies towards a fully integrated ecosystem where robotics, wellness, security and intelligent building services can work together seamlessly in real time to deliver enhanced safety, security and living experiences,” said Chua Seng Teong, the deputy chief executive officer of Mesiniaga, in a statement.
Mesiniaga and I-Bhd also claim that Luma would be the first of such platforms in the world, promising that robots will be able to move through buildings with coordinated lift and access permissions while wellness systems can automatically trigger emergency response protocols.
The hope is that buildings within i-City would also be able to adapt energy, lighting and ventilation dynamically based on behavioural patterns; security systems can work proactively; and future technologies can be integrated into the system without complete redesign or overhaul.
Mesiniaga described the entire AI Living architecture as being built around three integrated layers: the onsite computing layer UrbanOS Edge, the i-City SuperApp that will be the main interface for the residents, and Luma, the engine that will allow the various systems to communicate in real time.
“The real challenge is no longer whether robotics, AI wellness systems or intelligent buildings can exist independently,” said I-Bhd chairman Tan Sri Lim Kim Hong. “The challenge is enabling them to function together naturally.”
