UOA Group co-founder CS Kong passes away

KUALA LUMPUR (May 28): UOA Group co-founder and UOA Development Bhd (KL:UOADEV) executive director and managing director Kong Chong Soon @ Chi Suim, or better known as CS Kong, has passed away at the age of 85.

In a filing with the bourse on Thursday, UOA Group co-founder and UOA Development chairman Kong Pak Lim said he passed away peacefully on May 27, 2026. Chong Soon was appointed a director and MD of UOA Development on May 27, 2004.

UOA Development chairman Kong Pak Lim will assume the role and responsibilities of MD until a new one is formally appointed within three months. Further announcements regarding board arrangements will be made in due course.

Pak Lim said in the filing that Chong Soon served the company with exceptional distinction and integrity, providing steadfast leadership and strategic guidance throughout his tenure as managing director.

“His contribution to the growth, governance and long-term success of the company has been significant and enduring,” he added.

Chong Soon co-founded United Overseas Australia Ltd in 1987 with Pak Lim, and helped expand the group rapidly in Malaysia. Under his leadership, the group completed many residential, industrial, and commercial developments across Kuala Lumpur.

He had over 42 years of experience in the construction and property development industries in Malaysia and Singapore. Earlier in his career, he worked as a project advisor for the Harapan Group, helping oversee the construction of three major hotels in Singapore during the 1970s and 1980s including Le Méridien Singapore, Glass Hotel, and Changi Méridien Hotel. These projects were worth more than S$866 million.

He also previously served in leadership roles in several listed companies in Malaysia and Singapore, including Raleigh Bhd, Town and City Properties Ltd, and Tuan Sing Holdings Ltd.
