KULAI (June 12): Genting Property Sdn Bhd on Friday unveiled Johor Tech Smart City, a 2,300-acre integrated development within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) in Kulai, Johor. The project has an estimated gross development value of RM80 billion and is set to create over 10,000 jobs.

The project, launched by Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi alongside Genting Bhd (KL:GENTING) executive chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay, is being developed by Genting Property — the property arm and wholly-owned subsidiary of Genting Plantations Bhd (KL:GENP) — together with its agriculture technology subsidiary ACGT Sdn Bhd.

Johor Tech Smart City is planned as a technology- and agriculture-driven ecosystem comprising a 500-acre AgTech Campus and a 1,700-acre Knowledge AI Campus. The project aims to combine smart farming, artificial intelligence (AI), advanced infrastructure and sustainable urban planning within a single master-planned development.

Speaking at the launch event, Genting Plantations chief executive and executive director Datuk Indera Lim Keong Hui said the project is an important investment in Johor’s future growth.

“Johor Tech Smart City reflects our long-term commitment to investing in transformative developments that create sustainable value for both the state and the nation,” he said.

Keong Hui added that the development combines Genting Property’s township development experience with ACGT’s agriculture technology capabilities and global partnerships to support Johor’s economic growth, innovation ecosystem and future readiness.

The AgTech Campus will focus on food security and agricultural innovation through three core components. These include SEEDS, which will undertake crop and seed research and development; SUPERFARMS, a smart cultivation and scalable crop production platform; and SPROUT, a commercial and lifestyle hub featuring farm-to-table experiences, educational tourism and international conferences.

Meanwhile, the Knowledge AI Campus will feature a 430-acre innovation hub based on Huawei’s blueprint, which will integrate residential, recreational and wellness-oriented components. The development will also include a dedicated 100-acre solar farm to support its energy needs.

Onn Hafiz said the project reflects Johor’s efforts to build a competitive, innovation-driven and sustainable economic ecosystem.

“Johor Tech Smart City demonstrates what can be achieved through strong public-private collaboration and a shared long-term commitment to Johor’s sustainable development,” he told the press.

He added that the blueprint for the JS-SEZ is still being finalised and is expected to be signed by the Malaysian and Singapore governments by year end.

To support the development, Genting Property and ACGT have partnered with several international technology and planning firms. These include Huawei, architectural and planning firms B+H and Surbana Jurong, as well as agriculture technology companies China Shouguang Vegetable Industry Group, DAYU Irrigation, XAG and AIRSAT.

Genting Property currently has two major developments in Johor: Genting Indahpura in Kulai and Genting Pura Kencana in Batu Pahat.
