PETALING JAYA (June 22): The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) has channelled RM1.08 billion to Johor over the past four years since 2022 for upgrading, repair and maintenance works on infrastructure, public amenities and public housing.

Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming said the allocation demonstrates the Madani government’s continued commitment to ensuring balanced and inclusive development for Johor residents regardless of background or location.

He said the allocation stems from KPKT’s on-the-ground Sentuhan Kasih (Touch of Love) programme, which is carried out annually to identify the people’s needs and address local issues directly.

“Over the past four years, KPKT has conducted more than six official working visits to Johor. Each visit is not merely to fulfil the official schedule, but serves as a platform for us to hear directly from the people, examine the problems they face, design effective solutions and personally monitor the delivery of assistance,” he said in a statement.

Nga said this achievement also reflects close cooperation between the Federal government and the Johor state government in ensuring planned projects are implemented efficiently and deliver maximum impact to the people.

“Today, I have invited Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi to join the KPKT Sentuhan Kasih Johor 2026 programme at the Taman Ungku Tun Aminah flats in Skudai, which are more than four decades old, this Thursday, where KPKT will channel allocations to upgrade these ageing flats,” he said.

He added that Johor is on a strategic growth path as one of the country’s main economic gateways, which requires quality urban infrastructure and housing to support future development.

“As Johor continues to grow as a regional investment and economic hub, its people will also be able to enjoy public amenities, housing areas and urban environments that are in line with the state’s development aspirations,” he said.

The KPKT Sentuhan Kasih Johor 2026 programme will run for two days from Thursday to Friday, covering 13 locations. The programme is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to engage with residents, address local issues and ensure government allocations benefit communities in need.
